“Coming through the Storm”

Auction Ended

Titled “Coming Through the Storm,” the painting is a stirring blend of cobalt blues, soft greys, and creamy whites, reminiscent of the tumultuous skies of a passing storm. Razia says she drew inspiration for the painting from the recent nationwide move to level two of lockdown, which she says made her feel like we “are coming out of a storm.” She was also inspired by the words of the Dean of the St George’s Cathedral in Cape Town who said he “felt like he saw Jesus coming out of the water in a storm.”

Capetonian Artist Razia Myers Auctions off her Latest Painting for Charity

Capetonian artist Razia Myers knows no bounds when it comes to creating inspiring art. On the back of her incredible collection of artworks she generated during the lockdown, she has produced another breathtaking piece that will be auctioned off online next week with a percentage of the proceeds going to the Ladles of Love Charity organization.

Ladles of Love

Razia has partnered with local charity and a percentage of the proceeds from the online auction will be donated to the organization. Founded by Danny Diliberto in 2014, Ladles of Love is a locally run charity that was inspired by the ancient Sanskrit word “Seva,” meaning “giving of yourself wanting nothing in return.” What began as a single soup kitchen every Tuesday evening, grew into four different kitchens, working with other beneficiaries who also ran soup kitchens to feed the hungry. The charity also began working with four different schools to provide children with hot meals and prior to the nationwide lockdown was serving around 15 000 meals a month. When the country went into lockdown in March, Ladles of Love immediately become a part of the solution to avoid a growing humanitarian crisis. Food and money donations began pouring in and within two weeks, the organisation was processing almost 10 tonnes of food a week. They quickly outgrew their location and after receiving sponsorship from CTICC to use one of their 1,500-square-metre halls, the charity moved to the larger location and by the middle of June was processing over 40 tons of food and serving over 1 000 000 sandwiches.
